Inspired by the 1970’s New York Graffiti Movement our colourful vase of neon delights pays homage to the poetry and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring and the world premiere exhibition Crossing Lines on now at The National Gallery of Victoria.
SAMO was the graffiti tag of Jean-Michel Basquiat and artist friend Al Diaz in 1970s New York. Keith Haring stated the poetic writings of SAMO was one of his main inspirations for participating in the Graffiti movement as they were appearing all over the neighbourhood where he lived. One day by chance encounter Haring learned that Basquiat was one of the artists behind SAMO and that is where their friendship began.
