Azuma Makoto at Chadstone

10/01/2024
Azuma Makoto NGV Triennial

A sculptural symphony featuring over 50 Australian native botanicals, internationally renowned floral artist, Azuma Makoto has never been afraid to push creative boundaries, and his recent project was no exception.

Azuma’s creative eye and exploration of the connection between flowers and people saw this blooming seven metre masterpiece brought to life with the assistance of the Flowers Vasette and Gloss Creative teams.

The construction of the sculpture, made from a custom-built frame by Studio John Fish and filled with buckets of live and fresh cut blooms, took six weeks for a team of more than 20 people to complete.

Upon the reveal to the public, under the spanning skylights of Chadstone, floral concierges with basket backpacks filled with fresh cut blooms surprised passersby with gifts of floral delight.

This unique, towering and lush piece makes up part of the summer program of the NGV Triennial and is able to be viewed between January 12 and 29, 2024.
