Meet the Grower: Ken and his Lily of the Valley

21/10/2026

There is no flower quite like Lily of the Valley.

Its tiny, pearly bells produce one of the most extraordinary fragrances in the floral world. Fresh green and softly sweet, it is a scent that can fill an entire room.

We invite you to meet Ken, our local Victorian grower, whose property is home to these extraordinary little blooms.

Arriving at Ken’s property in the Hills, you are first greeted by his three enthusiastic corgis – Tinkerbell, Trinity and Miffy – who, for the sake of the lilies, are not allowed to roam the fields unsupervised. Beyond them, the first rows of Lily of the Valley stretch out across the property, their delicate white bells emerging from a sea of green.

Ken took over the property from his parents in 1989, the very same year Cherrie began Flowers Vasette. Three decades later, the lilies have a way of doing as they please, creeping beyond their neat rows and quietly finding extra room to grow elsewhere.

A winding, woodland path leads to a shaded corner of the property, affectionately named Shady Hollow by Ken’s father. Here, the youngest lilies are just beginning to emerge. Ken still hand packs each stem, so delicate they could not be gathered any other way.

Ken is a lovely reminder of the care, patience and people behind every stem
