Meet Barbara and John Hermon
They met at a party at John’s apartment. Barbara caught John’s eye with her radiant smile, and she was equally taken by John’s warmth as a host. Their connection was not immediate, but on a later date, they spent the evening talking, discovering a shared love for music, travel, and adventure. After a bonding period, they married in a simple service.
A shared quest for adventure led to a move to live in Europe. A planned one-year stay lasted eight years, and then Barbara and John returned to Melbourne. During this time, they established renowned styling company, Hermon & Hermon. The relationship was tested as they worked and lived together, and their bond grew stronger as the years continued. They faced life’s challenges together, supporting each other through thick and thin; celebrated their successes; and comforted each other in times of sorrow.
Their love is a beacon of hope and strength, guiding them through the ups and downs of life. Barbara and John built a beautiful life together, creating countless memories. They travelled the world, explored new cultures, and cherished every moment spent together. Their love story is a testament to the power of commitment, trust, patience, tolerance, and support for each other.
After 49 years of marriage, Barbara and John still look at each other with the same affection they did on that first night, though there were a few learning curves along the way. John learnt to like Leonard Cohen’s music, which Barbara is passionate about and they also stoke the fires of their AFL rivalry—Barbara is from Geelong, while John hails from Hawthorn. However, they can discover a love for a new musician if need be, and they can put aside their sporting differences to collaborate on what they love most. Their love has only deepened with time, and they continue to enjoy each other’s company, inspiring everyone who knows them by reminding them that love can stand the test of time.
