Caring For Christmas Lilies

05/12/2024

Like gentle whispers of joy, Christmas lilies fill the air with a subtle sweet fragrance, their graceful blooms embodying the beauty of the holiday season.

To ensure they shine their brightest on Christmas Day, here are a few tips to care for them and keep their magic alive.

From Bud to Bloom

We recommend purchasing them in advance as we mostly offer unopened buds. This helps to extend their lifespan, allowing them to gradually bloom within your space.

Fresh Cut the Stem

As with all flowers, cut the stems when you bring them home to allow for maximum water absorption. Re-trim the stems every few days as you replenish the water, ensuring your lilies remain vibrant.

Remove the Stamen

As the lilies begin to bloom, remove the stamens from within. This prevents the pollen from falling and leaving stains on your furniture or clothing. With a steady hand and the help of scissors or tweezers, you can preserve their elegance while keeping your living space pristine.

Ensure a Clean Vase

To prevent bacteria from growing in the vase, Cherrie recommends adding some bleach, sugar and vinegar to the water.

Cooler Environment

Lilies flourish in cooler temperature, so we recommend displaying them in a cool space and filling their vase with chilled water. The cold water helps slow their absorption and delays the opening of their blooms, allowing you to enjoy their fragrance for longer.
